Bingo
Scotland is part of the Think Bingo family of bingo sites, but was created
"to provide the definitive online location for Scots to play and
experience bingo online." We didn't realise that Scots particularly
felt the need for their own online bingo site (after all, isn't part
of the appeal of playing online the fact that you get to chat with people
from all over the UK, if not the world?) and even if they did, Bingo
Scotland is hardly exclusive to Scottish players. As their
info pages says, "Whilst we welcome (and have many) players from
across the UK, the chat games are run by Scots and the community spirit
is firmly Scottish." Exactly what this means we weren't sure (and
the reviewer has Scottish blood) but we were intrigued enough to want
to find out.
The home page of the Bingo Scotland site is vaguely Scottish - it's blue and has a Scottish flag along with a silhouette map of Scotland itself. Apart from that it looks like most other Think Bingo sites, with a bouncing bingo ball in the middle of the page, details of bonuses and recent winners on the right and a simple menu leading to general items of information on the left. Before you can begin playing with Bingo Scotland you will need to open an account, even if you already have one with another Think Bingo site. However, this doesn’t take long, and once you’ve entered your name address, username, password, phone number and e-mail, you’re set to go.
You get 1,000 Scottie Points for signing up to Bingo Scotland, and you can exchange these for £1 cash by clicking on Redeem Points after following the link you’ll be sent by e-mail. You will earn more Scottie Points. Further Plus Points when you buy bingo cards (every 10p spent earns 1 point) and if you refer a friend to Bingo Scotland (5,000 points per friend who signs up and starts playing). With tickets in many games costing as little as 25p, you won't need to deposit a penny to give Bingo Scotland a fair trial.
There is no software to download at Bingo Scotland. Like other Think Bingo sites, the action takes place in your Java-enabled web browser. When the lobby has loaded you are given the option of playing in a number of rooms, all with appropriate Scottish names such as "Hot Scots", "Think Scotland" and "Thistle Do Nicely." Different Bingo Scotland rooms play different games, so you can choose between 75 ball pattern bingo or the 90 ball traditional game.
The main Bingo Scotland gaming screen is dominated by the cards themselves on the left hand side of the screen. during gameplay the right side of the screen shows the numbers board. The bottom section of the screen shows information about the chat room you are in and a chat window. Buying tickets is as simple as clicking on the cards you want and then selecting "Buy These Cards".
The numbers at Bingo Scotland are called by a man with a Scottish accent and there are plenty of Scottish names in the chat room, but the game itself is much like any other Think Bingo offering. The game has an auto-daub and card-sorting feature, both of which are useful, but there are no mini games. Fortunately, plenty of Scotland-related events are staged every week and these really do help to establish the kind of "Scottish community spirit" alluded to earlier.
Overall, Bingo Scotland offers an enjoyable game which Scotophiles
and residents of Scotland alike will especially delight in. Good luck!
