Professor's research confirms that online bingo will thrive in 2009

Despite the media driven doom and gloom surrounding the current economic climate in the UK, 2009 looks set to be another successful year in the online bingo marketplace.

Nottingham University’s professor of gambling studies, Mark Griffiths, has recently carried out an in depth study into the online bingo marketplace and confirmed his belief that the industry will continue to grow in the coming year, commenting:

"Online bingo is going to be one of the biggest areas of growth, mainly because it is going for a segment which has never gambled in any great numbers before except on the National Lottery and scratch cards.

Women have not traditionally been a main target for the gaming industry and considering that online bingo can result in a social activity and fits into a flexible lifestyle, there is an opportunity here.

Also, if you see the number of television ads during the night-time for online bingo, it does outnumber any other type of gambling because most of the other forms of gambling have a fairly settled audience and really what you are trying to do with such advertisements is to switch people from one online site to another.

Whereas online bingo is bringing out completely new players and therefore, I would expect this particular segment of the market to substantially grow over the next few years."
