Online bingo is on the cards
Way back in May 2007, St Minver, a company that runs many of the bingo sites on behalf of big brands such as Virgin Bingo and Butlin’s, published a survey suggesting that 63% of bingo playing smokers would visit clubs less often and switch to paying bingo online. Jackpotjoy, a very established internet bingo operation, told how after the smoking ban was enforced in Scotland back in March 2006, there was a double digit growth in Scottish online bingo players. So how does this reflect now in 2009? While there is talk of bingo halls across the UK closing down or downsizing, bingo online has seen a big boom and popularity is growing.
Why is this you may ask? Well, consider this scenario: Gill, a 47 year old from Wales, has played bingo for over 20 years. Two or three times a week she plays bingo in the hope of winning the big jackpot. Gill loves the excitement of the game as well as the chance to catch up with her friends. However, recently Gill has been playing at home in front of her computer rather than at a local club. Because of a disability she said she relied on her husband to take her, however since the smoking ban was introduced, her husband refuses to go. Gill can always catch a lift, but playing online just takes the hassle out.
With the continuing rise of online bingo, Gill is certainly not alone.
