French online bingo market forecast to follow the success of the UK
An online bingo directory and news site based in France has predicted that the burgeoning French online bingo industry will follow in the successful footsteps of its UK counterpart.
One of the founders of the website bingonews.fr Stéphane Faure commented:-
"Even though the French online bingo industry is still very immature, we are already observing significant growth in site traffic and newsletter subscriptions."
Earlier this year The Court of Appeal of Versailles contested the legality of the existing French Gambling laws in accordance with EU legislation. Since then the French attitude towards online gambling seems to be moving forward at a steady pace, more so since the French authorities suggested that they will commence issuing approval for eGaming activities beginning in the latter half of 2009.
A spokesperson from the ULYS Law Firm stated:-
"This new regime implies the creation of a regulatory authority. There will be three types of licences: for sports betting, horse race betting and casino games, and they will be granted for five years.
According to the Ministry of Finances, the future licensing authority will not be bound by licences granted to operators in other Member States… French authorities will only acknowledge it and take this fact into consideration when delivering licences."
