Flash In The Pan

Bingo has always been a game played by many and in a variety of ways. Bingo is used for many things such as enjoyment and education. It can be an excellent learning tool and great for your response system. However I couldn’t help but think that ‘bathroom bingo’ was slightly odd to say the least.

For bathroom bingo, which was shown at a well known Art College a while back, it truly is a case of spending a penny and winning a pound.

Bathroom bingo entails the player picking a card, a pen and listening to the bingo caller announcing the numbers on the tannoy… whilst doing whatever it is you do in the bathroom. However experts say this isn’t just a flash in a pan, It is an unusual piece of conceptual art. Artist Deirdre McKenna said: ‘Bingo is considered low culture whilst the gallery is considered high culture…. I wanted to bring the two together.’

Basically the caller’s words are broadcast into the bathroom from the bingo hall. Cards and pens are provided alongside toilet roll.

Deidre told how she used to accompany her grandmother to bingo as a child and this invoked a great love of the game for her. It certainly is a new spin on the ever increasing bingo culture; however, I cannot see this one lasting. It is a concept that is likely to be flushed away.
