The Blue Nun brand of wine is to partner with Foxy Bingo to create a new online gambling site in a promotion that will be launched in June and will undoubtedly spark all sorts of “Blue Nun Gets Foxy” and “Blue Nun Plays Foxy Bingo” headlines. To the casual observer, the connection between a blue nun and bingo – foxy or otherwise – doesn’t seem to be readily apparent, but when you look a little closer the deal makes a lot of sense.
The Langguth Wines & Spirits company that owns the oft-derided Blue Nun brand wants to give it a new lease of life by pitching the product towards women in their late 20’s to early 30’s. Foxy Bingo just happens to be played by quite a few women in that age range, so when you view the two companies from a strictly marketing perspective, the partnership makes perfect sense.
Exactly how the promotional campaign will unfold remains to be seen, but there is obviously a great deal of potential for some fun here. The idea of a nun playing bingo is humorous in and of itself. The idea of a nun being associated with the word Foxy is even more so. Whether the advertising campaign takes a fun or cheeky tone is something that we will have to wait to discover, but when you consider the fact that Blue Nun previously partnered with Ann Summers in 2005 it is obvious that this particular nun doesn’t have a problem embracing her saucy side.
Many online bingo players like to enjoy a drink (in moderation, of course) as they participate in their favourite game, and we can think of much worse things than having a glass of Blue Nun on the go. And who knows... Maybe Our lady of the Blue Bottle will bring us a bit of bingo luck!
