The Rank Group tipped for success in 2009

The illustrious Rank Group, whose in house brands include the renowned Mecca Bingo and Grosvenor Casinos has been named as one of The Times newspaper’s top ten share tips for this year.

For many this news will serve as further proof that the recession, which now has the UK firmly in its grip, is not deterring the nation's bingo fans from playing bingo.

Recent market analysis has confirmed that the numbers playing online bingo in particular have risen dramatically over the last six months, with some estimating the increases in players at as much as 80%. Mecca Bingo online has enjoyed substantial success in the online bingo market and this looks set to continue throughout 2009.

Now, share tipping column The Tempus has selected the Rank Group as a prospective out performer in the British market in 2009.

Many believe that the Rank Group has already suffered a personal recession in recent times. Its land based bingo clubs suffered greatly with the introduction of the nationwide smoking ban and were further damaged by restrictions enforced on big money jackpot slot machines.

However the situation within the Rank Group has seen a definite improvement. At the end of 2008 its bingo division was awarded an incredible £59million in overpaid VAT by HM Revenue & Customs, and it is believed that non-payment of the additional taxes imposed on bingo will save the Rank Group an estimated £6million over the course of the coming year.
