Progressive Jackpot

Progressive jackpots are jackpot prizes that get progressively larger with each bingo game until they are eventually won by one or more players. They are generally offered in addition to regular bingo prizes, but are far less easy to win because of stringent conditions that must be met in order for a player to qualify.

In the 75 ball bingo game, progressive jackpots are usually paid to players who are able to make a coverall pattern (also known as a blackout pattern) before a certain number of balls have been called.  In the 90 ball game, progressive jackpots are paid to those players who make a full house before a certain number of balls have been called. In both cases, the number of balls that can be called for a player to qualify for the progressive is directly related to the frequency with which the progressive will be won. A progressive jackpot that demands that a player makes a coverall or full house within 38 balls would therefore be won far less often than a progressive jackpot that allows them to make a coverall or full house within 48 balls.

Because of the relationship between the rules of the progressive and the frequency with which a progressive is won, many online bingo sites offer more than one progressive jackpot. Usually there is a “mini-progressive” which pays out a modest jackpot fairly regularly, and a “major progressive” which pays out a much higher jackpot, albeit far less frequently.

Progressive jackpots are good for both the bingo game operators and for the bingo players themselves. They are good for the operators because progressive jackpots give them large prize payouts to advertise, which helps to bring more people into the game. They are good for the players because they given them the chance of winning potentially life-changing sums of money without having to invest anything more than the usual cost of their bingo tickets.
